What is it?

A fantastic project we ran for 5 years! The project came to a stop in September 2018 due to our demand in the community from neighbours wanting help at home. We created a safe, nuturing and encouraging environment for all ages to grow and become friends, our wonderful volunteers were finding themselves to be challenged more than what they thought with the developing needs of our lovely neighbours. Although we all found it sad to close the group the need for our devoted team members in the community is at a high.

Village Services knows that you need a healthy body and mind no matter how old you are and aimed to achieve both in our weekly Health and Well-Being groups. Aimed to give members an opportunity to socialize and improve their fitness, these classes are open to everyone. Bringing our community together, whatever the age.


When and Where?

Every Friday at Westgate Court, Community Lounge, Caerleon, NP18 1NA

  • 10:30 - 11.30 for exercise
  • 12.00pm -1.30pm for lunch.

What Happens?

Starting the morning off with fun, energetic, easy exercises from the chair (standing option also for those who can), focussing on improving balance and coordination to increase confidence in independent mobility in daily lives. Open to all ages and abilities, ideal for stretching your muscles and moving your joints. 

Between exercise and lunch you can enjoy a good cuppa and a laugh with neighbours.

We are proud to say that we work to our food hygiene rating level 5 in serving high quality meals that are full of nutrients, vegetables and delicious meats. Running on a 6 week rolling menu, the meals we offer are:

  • Chicken Hotpot.
  • Steak pie, veg and mash.
  • Faggots, peas and mash.
  • Sausage, Mash, veg and onion gravy.
  • Boiled ham, veg , mash and parsley sauce.
  • Lamb Hotpot.

Why join us?

  • Keeps you healthy: going to the fitness classes keeps many health issues at bay.
  • Keeps you independent: the classes allow you to stay independent.
  • Keeps you entertained: an opportunity to make new friends and catch up with old ones over tea and coffee as well as during the dinner.
  • Keeps you fed: all meals are hand made and based on recipes by an award winning nutritionist Dorothy Jeffereys. 

What does it cost?

For just £5 you can get a two course meal which consists of a delicious hot meal full of nutrients provided by our local Village Butcher followed by a delightful dessert. During lunch you have time to catch up with old friends and socialise with new ones.

For a fun exercise class it is just  £4.50.

Refreshments such as teas and coffees are all included .

how can I get involved?

We welcome volunteers who would like to get involved in our community projects. Everybody has skills and abilites we can use so you can come, even teach others, and you can learn news skills. To get involved, either call into The Hub or send us your email address and we'll get back to you.
